My dog lays at my feet as I look out the sliding glass door, across my new balcony, out to the trees now bending in the wind and bowed by the rain. I had looked out across my parking lot at the last apartment a number of times, but somehow it never gave me the same sense of comfort that I feel now.
It is summer, and I am on vacation this week, and I should be upset that it is raining on my vacation week, but I don't mind. For me, the time off is merely time I will spend organizing my new place - emptying the boxes still standing in the garage below my apartment, bringing up the bookcases, arranging the artwork. I'll admit that I do plan to check out the new pool later this week, when the rain stops and the temperatures go to a more comfortable place.
But for now, I don't mind relaxing, watching the rain, the wind, and my dog comfortably asleep on the floor.
