I've been hearing it a great deal, particularly now that everyone is resolved to exercise and lose weight - you have to crawl before you walk. What it means is to take it slow, don't throw yourself into something that you will tire of quickly.
I am doing this, but for me, the meaning is almost literal. I have been experience such a great amount of back and joint pain, that sometimes, I feel I can barely walk (although, honestly, crawling would be worse as my knees would hurt even more.)
I have started to work out, though very slowly, focusing first on getting myself in a place where I can move. To do this, I have made a great discovery - yoga for back pain! I never knew I would actually enjoy doing something as much as I enjoy this. While I do my yoga, I am, primarily, getting my back and other joints in workable shape. But I have to say, it also feels great!
No, I don't expect to lose a great deal of weight with this (or possibly any), That will come later. But I am now motivated; a step in the right direction!
