I have heard this expression so many times, it seems as if it meaning no longer has any effect on me. Diamond in the rough. Yes, it means someone whose qualities are hidden, waiting to be discovered.
I don't think I fully understood this description until recently. Sometimes we want that diamond - not rough, but perfectly shaped, cut, polished. Most of us want that, right? If we saw what a real diamond in the rough looked like, we probably wouldn't give it a second glance.
Life has not been easy for me, and because of it, I can understand someone who hasn't had it so easy as well. I think I get attracted to these people because they understand. But sometimes they don't really understand. They seem like they do. They act like they do. But it is just that - an act.
A true diamond in the rough, though, shines through, even when going through "rough" spots. I am beginning to understand this, and appreciate him more and more each day.
